About LeAnn Rimes :
Country singer. Born Margaret LeAnn Rimes, on August 28, 1982, in Jackson, Mississippi. The daughter of Wilbur and Belinda Rimes, LeAnn was raised in Dallas, Texas, where she began singing and dancing in local variety shows at age five. Through her powerful performances, Rimes quickly built a dedicated following in Texas and garnered the attention of Dallas record promoter and disc jockey Bill Mack. In 1994, the 11-year-old Rimes recorded her first album, All That, with the independent label Nor Va Jak.
In 1996, under the tutelage Mack, Rimes signed with Curb Records and recorded the album Blue, which debuted at number three on the pop charts, selling over 123,000 copies within its first week of release. The album’s title song “Blue” (originally written for country legend Patsy Cline by Mack) reached number one on the Billboard country charts and earned Rimes a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance. Rimes also captured the 1996 Best New Artist Grammy. This feat had never before achieved by a country musician.
Rimes followed Blue’s success with two 1997 albums: Unchained Melody and You Light Up My Life. Featuring the Grammy-nominated song “How Do I Live,” You Light Up My Life became the first album in music history to simultaneously debut at number one on the pop, country, and contemporary Christian Billboard charts.
In 1997, Rimes starred in the television movie, Holiday in Your Heart, which was based on her book of the same title. The following year, she issued the LP Sittin’ on top of the World, which yielded the singles “Commitment” and “Looking Through Your Eyes.” Her 1999 self-titled album featured classic country standards such as Willie Nelson’s “Crazy” and Buck Owens’ “Cryin’ Time.” Another highlight of that year was when Rimes traveled to Europe to present a special Thanksgiving Day concert to Pope John Paul II.
Rimes made her motion picture acting debut in the film Coyote Ugly (2000) and recorded four songs for the film’s soundtrack: “Can’t Fight the Moonlight,” “Please Remember,” “The Right Kind of Wrong,” and “But I Do Love You.” She also played singer Connie Francis on the television drama American Dreams. Her 2009 television movie Northern Lights brought Rimes some unwanted attention when rumors began to circulate about her relationship with her co-star Eddie Cibrian. Rimes has been married to dancer Dean Sheremet since 2002. On her Website, she released this statement: “This is a difficult time for me and my loved ones, but I appreciate your continued support. . . . Not everything in our lives is always black and white.”
Despite the controversy, Rimes remains active, acting and performing. She sang the national anthem at the 2009 Kentucky Derby and appeared on the television special honoring country legend George Strait that same year.
